China is increasingly attracting young global entrepreneurs. Two students from Peking University's Future Leaders Double Degree Program — Vukašin Vasiljević from Serbia and Kuo Tsung Hsun from Singapore — explain why China is ideal for innovation.
For Vasiljević, the decision was influenced by the strong support network in Beijing. "The support is remarkable — not just from the private sector, but also from the government," he said. "Our peers and professors at Peking University motivate us and boost our confidence."
Kuo grew up hearing stories about China's rapid development. "In Singapore, we always talked about China becoming an economic powerhouse," he said. "Being here and exploring the environment — maybe even starting a business — feels like a dream come true."
Both students highlight China’s people as a major strength. The "Chinese are incredibly genuine," Kuo said. "They're always willing to help, without expecting anything in return."
Vasiljević noted that foreign founders often find it easier than expected to build connections: "People are friendly, open to new ideas, and willing to mentor young entrepreneurs."
Their startup ideas reflect China's diverse opportunities. Kuo previously worked on a food-waste project and is now exploring travel and mental wellness. Vasiljević is developing an educational platform to improve real-time classroom interaction.
To international students considering entrepreneurship in China, both advice: come and experience it yourself.
"The energy here is incredible," Vasiljević said. "Feel it for one day, and you'll understand why people stay."
Kuo agreed: "Only by being here can you truly understand the possibilities."
China, they say, is a place where young innovators can build, grow, and dream big.
