MaRan Nu Nu, a Myanmar international student of the School of Ethnology and Sociology at Yunnan University shared her studying experiences in China, which began with her first visit in 1999 for the Kunming Expo.

Falling in love with this city, Kunming, she subsequently visited several other cities in China including Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Hangzhou, Guilin, and Chengdu, experiencing the diverse culture and heritage of China. Through the Belt and Road Initiative, she came to China to study clinical medicine at Kunming Medical University in 2017. She received a Chinese Government Scholarship to pursue her graduate studies at Yunnan University in 2022, offering her more opportunities to learn about China.

She noted that as she delved deeper into Chinese society, she increasingly appreciated the greatness of this country. On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue between China and ASEAN in 2021, she participated in the China-ASEAN Youth Camp, visiting the Kunming International Flora Auction Trading Center and Ziyun Qingniao Yunnan Cultural and Creative Expo Park, gaining an understanding of floral and cultural industries in Kunming.

She also visited Zixi Yi Village in Chuxiong City, Yunlong Party History Education Base in Ziwu town, and the Chuxiong Prefecture Museum, learning about rural revitalization, folk housing with characteristics, and environmental improvements while experiencing customs and traditions of Yi ethnic group.

She joined Yunnan University’s program, visiting Ludian County in Zhaotong, Yunnan. She toured the Ludian Earthquake Memorial and the rebuilt Longtoushan area and the relocation and resettlement sites for poverty alleviation in Maojiawan. These visits provided a view of poverty alleviation efforts.

Through the documentary "No Poverty Land," she comprehensively witnessed poverty alleviation efforts in China. The documentary recorded the journey across several provinces, documenting the process and success of China’s efforts to lift people out of poverty.

She believes that China’s poverty alleviation model helps people lift themselves out of poverty and creates a future for them, a model worth learning from in other countries. She referenced Nico, a foreign assistant to a poverty alleviation official in Zhadong Village of Guangxi, who said that Europe's poverty alleviation method involves subsidies, while China’s approach is a comprehensive plan that helps people out of poverty and creates a future for them.

In recent years, China has transformed from a backward, impoverished nation into a prosperous and powerful country. She expressed pride in witnessing and participating in this remarkable journey.
