Indonesian student Melinda Sheren, who is studying at Shanghai Polytechnic University (SSPU), recently won the Best Creative Award for her design at the first International Shanghai Fashion Season (ISFS) Award of International Folk Gifts Innovative Design Contest.

Sheren combined the culture of her home country of Indonesia with other classic elements and added a sense of fashion design. Her three sets of trendy long sock styles impressed both domestic and foreign judges.

Her teacher, Shao Xiaochun, was awarded the Excellent Tutor Award and SSPU was awarded the Best Organizing Award.

The purpose of the contest is to promote "cultural integration and people-to-people communication." It encourages international students currently studying at or who graduated from Chinese universities to explore and interpret elements of various folk customs and cultures related to folk activities in different countries through innovative sock designs. It aims to showcase distinctive traditional cultures and enhance cultural exchanges between different countries.

The contest was supervised by the China Association for International Education (CAFSA), organized by the Shanghai Fashion Accessories Society and the Shanghai Service Industries Development and Research Foundation, co-organized by the Shanghai International Students Education Committee and IEAS and undertaken by Donghua University.

It gave out one International Fashion Grand Award, three Best Creative Awards, 10 Best Design Awards, 31 Cultural Exchange Awards, 17 Excellent Tutor Awards and 13 Best Organizing Awards.
