Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) recently held the "Your Encounter with Shanghai" Chinese Bridge—Online Chinese Study Camp for Southeast Asian College Students 2022, which lasted from Dec 10 to 17.

The online camp was co-hosted by SHNU and the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China's Ministry of Education. It focused on international Chinese education, served as a cultural exchange platform, and provided opportunities for Southeast Asian Chinese-language learners to learn Chinese language and experience Chinese culture, aiming to help participants deepen their all-around understanding of China and Shanghai, and promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning.

Around 430 students from more than 40 universities in Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar participated in the online learning camp.

The eight-day camp utilized video materials, live interactions, and virtual visits to attractions to help participants learn Chinese and experience Chinese culture. Its content consisted of four major sections, including language courses, lectures on China's national conditions, Chinese culture lectures and student exchanges.

Nursyazwani Jamil from the MARA University of Technology in Malaysia said the Chinese language training camp gave her a deeper understanding of the history, economy and culture of China, especially Shanghai, and also prompted her to list SHNU as one of her future goals.

Careen from Tarumanagara Xinya College in Indonesia said she was very happy to have the opportunity to communicate with students from different countries and schools, and the vivid teaching methods utilized by the camp teachers and the positive learning atmosphere enabled her to improve her Chinese language level and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

Khueankaew Natthaphong from Thailand said that in the process of studying at the training camp, his favorite thing was the culture of Shanghai that the teachers talked about.

La Nhat Dan Thu from Ho Chi Minh City Normal University in Vietnam said that the short days of studying brought many unforgettable memories, and she thanked SHNU teachers for giving them the opportunity to communicate with students from Southeast Asian countries. She added that when the epidemic is over, she would be sure to come to China to experience the charm of Chinese language and culture and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Shanghai.
