On April 2, the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIAT) held a calligraphy activity for foreign experts and students to provide them with a unique cultural experience.

The organizer first explained the history of calligraphy, as well as the set of skills and techniques for positioning and inscribing words, and then taught the participants how to write the characters "风" and "月", which refers to a gentle breeze and bright moonlight, and originate from ancient Chinese poetry.

The holiday, which lasted from April 3 to 5 this year, is called Qingming because this name translates as "clearness" and "brightness", referring to the arrival of spring and better weather.

At the beginning of April, it becomes noticeably warmer and brighter, and nature wakes up in northern and central China (this happens earlier in south China). People start to wear lighter clothes and walk outside to enjoy the springtime weather.

Chinese calligraphy is a traditional form of writing characters from the Chinese language with ink and a brush. It is a tradition that is rooted in China through centuries of practice.
