Three Uzbekistani students from the College of Overseas Education of the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province recently won the "Bridge of Friendship" prize at the fourth SFLEP Cup National College Students' Intercultural Competence Contest.

As the only team from Jiangsu that advanced to the finals, the three juniors, Sobirjon Ibragimov, Nodir Izzatullaev and Doniyor Jumaniyazov, performed a sitcom about their life in China that highlighted the cultural differences they had experienced. In the play, they learned to speak Chinese, write Chinese characters, practice kung fu, use chopsticks and make Chinese friends.

Themed "diverse cultural life", the sitcom was aimed at encouraging international students in China to learn about Chinese language and culture, make friends and join school clubs to better adapt to life in a foreign country, said Liu Juanjuan, a teacher at the NJUPT.

The College of Overseas Education of the NJUPT has opened a number of classes about Chinese history and geography, as well as organized various cultural activities such as visiting villages and lion and dragon dance lessons to help foreign students understand Chinese culture.

The contest was organized by the China Education Association for International Exchange, Shanghai International Studies University and the Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (SFLEP). Thirty teams from across the country participated in the finals and created works under three themes, namely diverse cultural life, business communication and public diplomacy.
