'Sino-African Friendship' training programs open at SHOU

Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) opened two "Sino-African Friendship" training programs in the field of fisheries and aquaculture on March 1.

The trainees are from such African universities and research institutes as the Regional Maritime University, the University for Development Studies, the University of Douala and the Ahmadu Bello University.

Yang Jinlong, director of the International Exchange Office of SHOU expressed a warm welcome to trainees from different African countries at the opening ceremony.

He expressed hope that the programs can help cultivate more talents with higher aquaculture and fishery technology for Africa, promote the in-depth cooperation between China and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative in the field of marine fisheries and aquaculture, and promote the healthy and sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture globally.

Representatives from the African universities thanked SHOU for offering the six-month training opportunity, saying that they look forward to cooperating more with SHOU in the future.

The "Sino-African Friendship" Training Program is implemented by the Chinese Scholarship Council. SHOU was approved by the Ministry of Education to hold the two CSC "Sino-African Friendship" training programs.

The program encourages universities to give full play to their advantages and features, and cooperate with African government departments, enterprises or universities to carry out the talent training program, so as to cultivate high-level talents for Africa.
