International students from Hohai University in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province have been impressed by the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and upbeat about changes that the sporting extravaganza will bring about.

Winter sports have become hugely popular due to the Winter Olympics and kids can often be seen playing at indoor ski resorts or skating rinks, said a Ghanaian first-year postgraduate student.

The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games also has many fans in Russia, a country with long winters, said a doctoral student from the School of Public Administration. She added that she can now go skating without returning to Russia or waiting for a cold season because there are five indoor skating rinks in Nanjing.

A Nigerian student who has studied at the College of Environment of the university from 2018 said the technologies used in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics, like the electronic media and broadcasting system and lighting system, excited him the most. In addition, the way that the Olympic flame was lit during the opening ceremony was reflection of the low-carbon concept, he added.

Through the sporting event, China is also expected to enhance cooperation with other countries in such fields as economy, culture, environment, and education, said the Nigerian student.

"Having lived in Nanjing for 12 years, the city is like my second home," said the Russian girl. "Chinese cities have been experiencing great changes. Nanjing was just putting its second metro line on trial when I came, and now it has 11 lines running and another 8 going to be launched."
