The International Education College of Nanjing Forestry University in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province organized an activity for its international students on Jan 11 to celebrate the Chinese New Year which will begin on Feb 1.
More than 70 students from 25 different countries, who are staying on campus during the winter holiday due to the ongoing pandemic, participated in the activity.
During the celebration, Gu Yeliang, an inheritor of Qinhuai lanterns, was invited to teach the students to make rabbit lanterns with lead wires and colored paper.
The Qinhuai Lantern Festival is a traditional event held in Nanjing during Spring Festival and has been recognized as a national-level intangible cultural heritage item.
The students also learned to write the Chinese character fu (福, meaning fortune or good luck) with brush pens, which is also a tradition during Chinese New Year.
