The Fifth International College Students New Media Festival kicked off in Suzhou, Jiangsu province on Nov 21 with the aim of stimulating students' innovation potential, boosting creative achievements, and improving cooperation between universities and the media industry.

The event received a total of 410 submitted works from 107 universities, including Renmin University of China, Xiamen University, Tongji University, East China Normal University, Beijing Film Academy, Jinan University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Nanjing Normal University.

After two rounds of appraisals, 101 works qualified for the final. The event awarded four first-place prizes, 10 second-place prizes, and 20 third-place prizes. There were also four organization awards.

The new media industry has in recent years been growing in scale and competitiveness, and this has led to a higher demand for talents in the new media industry and colleges taking measures to cultivate such talents.

The festival, which was founded in response to this trend, has been held for five years and attracted the attention of both domestic and foreign college students.

In these five years, more than 1,700 works have been submitted by participants from over 20 countries including China, the United States, Germany, Italy, Australia, the Philippines, South Korea, France, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Ethiopia.
