In order to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Gansu and countries around the world, as well as to develop exchanges and cooperation between Gansu province and countries along the Belt and Road in politics, economy, culture, education, and trade, the Gansu Provincial People's Government has established a scholarship program for outstanding students from countries along the Belt and Road to study in Gansu.
Students may choose to study majors in twelve academic disciplines, including Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Law, Economics, Management, Education, Literature, History, Philosophy, and Arts.
What level of study is available?
The Gansu Province Silk Road Special Scholarship is open for the following academic programs:
- Undergraduate
- Master's
- Doctorate
Note: Each university offers a specific range of programs and degrees based on its recruitment and international student training plans.
What's the coverage?
I. Full-Ride Silk Road Scholarship
- Tuition fee waiver
- Dormitory fee waiver
- Living allowance (10 months per year)
- Undergraduate & Master’s students: 1,500 CNY/month
- PhD students: 3,500 CNY/month
II. Half-Ride Silk Road Scholarship
Notes:
This policy applies to all levels of study.
Scholarship recipients must participate in an annual evaluation according to university regulations to determine eligibility.
Students who fail the evaluation will have their scholarship suspended.

III. Fees Need to be Paid
- Registration fee: 400 CNY;
- Comprehensive medical insurance: 1,000 CNY/academic year;
- Full-Ride Students each year should pay 1,000 CNY accommodation fees;
- Half-Ride Students each year should pay 6,000 CNY accommodation fees.
What's the eligibility?
General Requirements
- Must not hold Chinese nationality and must possess a valid regular passport.
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- Must not simultaneously hold other scholarships.
Educational Background and Age
- Applicants for undergraduate programs must have a high school diploma, excellent academic performance, and be between 17 and 25 years old.
- Applicants for master's programs must have a bachelor's degree, excellent academic performance, and be under 28 years old.
- Applicants for doctoral programs must have a master's degree, excellent academic performance, and be under 35 years old.
Language Requirements
- Undergraduate applicants must have at least HSK4 certification.
- Master's and Doctorate applicants must have HSK5 certification or higher.

What's the application documents?
- Passport
- Passport-size photo
- Visa pages and entry/exit stamps for applicants who have previously visited China
- Diploma (Applicants who have not yet graduated must provide a temporary graduation certificate or a student enrollment certificate)
- Academic transcripts
- Language proficiency certificates
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form (valid for six months)
- Police clearance certificate (valid for six months)
- Study or research plan in China
- Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors (required for master's and doctorate applicants, written in Chinese or English)
- Legal guardian documents for applicants under 18 years old
Other supporting documents (if applicable)
Note: Original documents not in English or Chinese must be accompanied by a notarized translation.
What's the application process?
- Step 1: Research universities and programs offering the scholarship.
- Step 2: Prepare all required application documents.
- Step 3: Submit your application and materials according to the university's guidelines.
- Step 4: Universities review the applications. Applicants should frequently monitor their application status during this period.
- Step 5: Receive the scholarship results.
Be aware of the annual review
- Scholarship students will be reviewed in each academic year. Based on assessment results, students who receive full-ride Silk Road Scholarship and half-ride Silk Road Scholarship are determined.
- For those whose scholarships are canceled, they will become self-financed student starting in September of the next academic year. All fees will be paid at their own expenses.
- Another chance of applying for this scholarship will be given if a self-financed student meets the annual assessment requirements again.
