BFSU starts 2022 Olympics volunteer training

Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) launched a training program for volunteers of the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games on Nov 10.

The one-month volunteer training covers four aspects - basic skills, knowledge extension, practical exercise and comprehensive quality improvement.

Through a combination of learning, physical training and practical experience, BFSU volunteers will greatly improve their service awareness and professional skills, said the university.

During the games, the university will send more than 800 volunteers in language service, protocol, NCS, OFS, sports display and media operation posts.

Nearly 100 teachers and students will provide third-party language translation services at the Beijing Multilingual Service Center.

BFSU has mobilized its students and faculty members to serve and dedicate themselves to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics. In the volunteer recruitment stage, the number of registrants totaled 4,100, accounting for about 40 percent of current students.

Zhang Lina, deputy head of the volunteer department of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics organizing committee, called for volunteers to tell China’s story well and show the national image; provide services with patriotism, sportsmanship, professionalism, dedication, international vision and vitality; have the courage to take responsibility and respond to challenges with good character and strong will; and show a comprehensive image of China and transmit the Olympic spirit and volunteerism.

Su Dapeng, deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU committee, said he hopes young volunteers will uphold the BFSU spirit when serving at the event, tell China’s story with sincerity and enthusiasm, make contributions to communication between China and the world and provide high-quality foreign exchange services.

Zhang Jiachen, a teacher volunteer from the School of European Languages and Cultures at BFSU, shared her experience of participating in the Winter Olympics test events.

She said that she has found pleasure in helping others and felt the honor and mission of being a BFSUer.

Hu Zhaoting, a student volunteer from the International Business School at BFSU, expressed his happiness about being an OFA volunteer.

He said that as a BFSUer, he will understand his responsibility and mission, respond to the call of the Olympic Committee, and make his own contributions to the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Wang Linuo, former captain of the women’s national ice hockey team, talked about losing in the qualification round at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics and rising at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Hard work always pays off, she said. Wang also shared her experiences with volunteer translators when competing in foreign countries.

She confirmed the role volunteers play in major events and encouraged BFSU volunteers to carry forward the spirit of dedication, friendship, mutual help and progress to demonstrate the responsibility and commitment of China’s younger generations.

The 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is a landmark event held in the new era, which brings a favorable opportunity to show China’s image, promote national development and invigorate the national spirit.
