- What is YICMG?
The Youth Innovation Competition on Lancang-Mekong Region’s Governance and Development provides a platform for the students from the six countries, focusing on the sub-regional and local public issues and carrying out co-curricular learning, such as field research and social practice. Students are encouraged to, through teamwork, work out suggestions and solutions, which will get improvement through this international competition and might be practiced in the real world.
The YICMG Training Camp for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a subproject of the YICMG. Much more than cultural exchanges such as “Embracing Cultural Roots” activities, the training camp aims at following the development of those outstanding projects in the First and Second finals, and was designed to provide the college teams from the six countries with tailored innovation instruction and project incubation services.
- Vision and Mission
The YICMG, as well as its subproject - Lancang-Mekong Youth Training Camp for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, are designed for the universities and students in the sub-region, offering chances to broaden students’ international vision and to enhance their competency of global governance. This competition serves as a channel for intercultural communication, and also as a functional mechanism for youth innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Competition Theme for YICMG 2019-The Internet and Social Life”
The Lancang-Mekong region boasts a vast piece of land and a large amount of population. Economically speaking, it has great potential for Internet-related development. However, at the same time, this promising region still faces some challenges in terms of the macro socioeconomic environment. Although the economic growth and modern industrialization have brought many opportunities for internet technology development, there are still some problems, such as the inadequacy of basic internet access in the remote region, the development gap between the urban and rural areas and between youths and elders. Then, confronted with these challenges, how can we develop internet more effectively to further meet the increasing demands on utilizing the internet to improve local and transnational governance? As some scholars mentioned, “People are not passively affected by technology, but actively shape its use and influence.” (Bargh & McKenna, 2003). Internet, undoubtedly, becomes a key challenge for governance and development of the Lancang-Mekong region.
